Makeup Artist Secrets on How To Select the Perfect Foundation

How To Select the Perfect Foundation

What is a Foundation?

Foundations are very important to the overall finish of your makeup. Some people prefer liquid foundations, some prefer powder foundations or mineral makeup and still others prefer tinted moisturizers. Understanding what works for your skin is the first step to being happy with your foundation and the other step is having the right tools/makeup brushes for the job.

Dealing with Dry Skin

If your skin tends to be more on the dry side you may like a liquid foundation and/or tinted moisturizers which will give you good coverage and keep your skin hydrated through the day. For the perfect finish with a liquid you need to use a brush, NOT A SPONGE!! (Sponges only waste your liquid foundations by sucking up more product than it deposits on your skin). I prefer “kabuki” style brushes they are short and round like a blush brush but designed for foundations, you use short circular motions across your entire face to blend in the product. Many companies also make a “foundation” brush shaped much like a small paint brush but I find they still leave streaks in your foundation that the “kabuki” style brushes do not leave.

Dealing with Oily Skin

If you have normal to oily skin you may want to consider using pressed powders or mineral makeup for the perfect finish foundation because liquid foundations could be too much for you and make you break out. Both products work well with a kabuki brush as well and many companies that sell mineral makeup also sell the proper brushes to use with their products in great affordable start packages.

Good Moisturizer

Just remember as with any good foundation a great beginning to perfect skin starts with a good moisturizer and daily skin care regimen.
